Vapor cloud explosion analysis of onshore petrochemical facilities
نویسنده
چکیده
The paper describes an approach to predicting gas explosion loads and response which has been developed for offshore installations and which only recently has been adapted to onshore petrochemical facilities. The paper consists of three parts: Part 1: An overview of vapour cloud explosion hazards in petrochemical onshore facilities and a discussion of modeling approaches. Part 2: A probabilistic explosion risk analysis for a petrochemical facility, based on the CFD code FLACS, where the focus is on determining risk of escalation in a future unit from explosions in an existing unit. Part 3: An MDOF response analysis is presented for selected equipment (a loop reactor and a raised vessel) based on the loads predicted in the probabilistic analysis.

Onshore Explosion Studies –Benefits of CFD-Modelling
Integral or phenomenological consequence models are extensively used for explosion and dispersion studies at onshore petrochemical facilities. These models will generally ignore the influence of the geometry of the facility on the ventilation and flow patterns, the generation of flammable gas clouds, and any subsequent explosions. Another significant weakness of these models is the inability to...
متن کاملConsequences Modeling of the Akçagaz Accident through Land Use Planning (LUP) Approach
In the study, consequences analysis of Akçagaz LPG Facilities accident was conducted. The consequences analysis, modeling studies were performed by the use of EFFECTS 10.0 Software over two liquefied gas LOC (Loss of Containment) scenarios. One of the scenarios was G1: Instantaneous release corresponding to BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion) and the other was G2: Release in 1...
متن کاملApplication of Fuzzy Fault Tree Analysis in Risk Assessment of Ammonia Tank Explosion Scenario
Introduction: Chemical industries often have risks for the environment and communities, due to the use of complex facilities and processes. Also, in the ammonia tanks, the probability of risk of explosion is high, owing to their specific characteristics. The aim of this study is to evaluate the risks of explosion scenario at the ammonia tank in the Kermanshah petrochemical complex Material and...
متن کاملRoot Cause Analysis of NIOC\'s 20" Natural Gas Explosion
Transmission and distribution pipelines have a significant role in the oil and gas industries. Pipelines are facing different threat like corrosion, improper design and incorrect operation. Gas vapor released from a pipeline (owned by NIOC) failure spread out and reached to ignition source. Due to gas outdoor spreading, “flash fire” occurred and flame return caused “vapor cloud explosion” of ga...
متن کاملPressure-relieving and Depressuring Systems
This standard is applicable to pressure-relieving and vapor depressuring systems. Although intended for use primarily in oil refineries, it is also applicable to petrochemical facilities, gas plants, liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities, and oil and gas production facilities. The information provided is designed to aid in the selection of the system that is most appropriate for the risks and ...
